Four Days to Express Appreciation

Taking Time to Give Thanks

Creative Bliss is about taking time to honor special occasions and those special people who deserve our focus of attention on that particular day. Those people who deserve our honor, support and respect.

November 11 - Veteran's Day
Reach out and contact your favorite veteran and thank him/her for their service to our country! On the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month of 1918, an armistice, or temporary cessation of hostilities, was declared between the Allied nations and Germany in the First World War, then known as "the Great War." Commemorated as Armistice Day beginning the following year, November 11th became a legal federal holiday in the United States in 1938. In the aftermath of World War II and the Korean War, Armistice Day became Veterans Day, a holiday dedicated to American veterans of all wars. http://www.history.com/topics/history-of-veterans-day

November 12 - Chicken Soup for the Soul Day
According to the creators of the book series of the same name, Chicken Soup for the Soul Day was created as ".... a celebration of who you are, where you've been, where you're going, and who you will be thankful to when you get there!"

On holidayinsights.com they suggest you use this day to celebrate the value and healing of chicken soup, especially mom's chicken soul. "Chicken soup has long been seen as remedial for colds, flus, and just about anything that ails you. You can't find that healing in a can. You can only find it in mom's homemade chicken soup." http://www.holidayinsights.com/moreholidays/November/csftsday.htm

November 13 - World Kindness Day
Everyday we want to express kindness. On this day we may want to especially remember to be perform acts of kindness to our friends, loved ones, neighbors and complete strangers. "The purpose of World Kindness Day is to look beyond ourselves, beyond the boundaries of our country, beyond our culture, our race, our religion; and realize we are citizens of the world. As world citizens we have a commonality, and must realize that if progress is to be made in human relations and endeavors, if we are to achieve the goal of peaceful coexistence, we must focus on what we have in common." http://www.kindness.com.au/world_kindness_day.htm

November 14 - Operating Room Nurse Day
Operating Room Nurse Day honors those important nurses, who care for patients before, during and immediately after surgery. These are special people who are often ignored. A patients comfort and life is in their hands. Show your thanks and appreciation to Operating nurse that you know. Stop by the hospital today with donuts, bagels or cookies for the operating room nurses! Or send them cards or Ecards. However, just a simple, spoken "thank you" will do.

November 15 - National Philanthropy Day
National Philanthropy Day (NPD), sponsored by the Association of Fundraising Professionals, is a special day set aside to recognize the great contributions of those people active in the philanthropic community who are dedicated to the enrichment of our world. Organize your WhatFriendsDo.com team to make a charitable donation to the organization of your friend’s choice in his/her honor. http://www.afpnet.org/

Hidden Treasures

Creative Bliss is sometimes about suddenly discovering hidden or forgotten treasures. You know, the ones that kind of sneak up on you without notice and reveal something magical about yourself.

Yesterday I was cleaning out my computer files. As I was consolidating, eliminating and reorganizing the files and folders I suddenly found myself staring at a folder titled "Abundance." As I opened the various files in this folder I discovered a treasure trove of different articles I had written a few years ago!

What was amazing to me was these articles were wonderfully inspiring! They resonated with me so strongly.

When was the last time you cleaned out your studio closet or computer files? You may discover hidden treasures you forgot you had!

Last Friday night some friends and I went to the Metropolitan Museum which is open late on Friday nights, until 10:30 pm. We saw the Picasso exhibition and meandered around the museum and had some dinner in the Petrie Court Cafe and Wine Bar.

We went to the roof to view Doug + Mike Starn: Big Banbu,  a site-specific installation in the The Iris and B. Gerald Cantor Roof Garden. The twin brothers Mike and Doug Starn (born in New Jersey in 1961) present their new work, Big Bambú: You Can't, You Don't, and You Won't Stop

The monumental bamboo structure, ultimately measuring 100 feet long, 50 feet wide, and 50 feet high, takes the form of a cresting wave that bridges realms of sculpture, architecture, and performance.

While you're on the rooftop catch some spectacular views of the New York City skyline.

Painted Miniature Sculptures

Lotus Blossom

Lotus Blossom, original one-of-a-kind, sculpted painted pendant with Bali silver beads and Swarovski crystals. There are many textures and layers in this piece and just subtle hints of color.

This necklace is no longer available. It was sold to a beautiful woman, Joanne, who is an artist, author and pianist.

When I create sculpted painted wearable art pieces I enter the mysterious world of miniature art. Something magical and mesmerizing happens when clay is in my hands.

The textures, colors and shapes that compose my Jewelry of ART are clearly inspired by nature but I rarely plan a piece. I prefer to take a journey into creative bliss and be surprised with the outcome.

Sometimes the pieces are more literal, such as Lotus Blossom and Rebirth or they can be abstract as with Verdant Bliss. There is no consistent path, sometimes shapes follow color or color inspires form. But the rhythmic, musical and undulating shapes of petals, leaves, and shells are never distant from my mind's eye.

Rhythm throughout my pieces is important. I listen to classical music while creating art which also influences my mood and the way my hands react to the forming of the clay.

Rebirth

Rebirth, original one-of-a-kind, sculpted painted pendant with freshwater pearls and Swarovski crystals. The simple and exquisite shape of the petal is accented by a a strand of pearls cascading down the center. To me this symbolizes rebirth or emergence.

This piece is no longer available. It has been sold to a beautiful woman Cecilia, who is an attorney and art collector. However, I have several one of a kind pendants in similar floral and leaf shapes.

When I add paint and powdered pigments and finally the crystal accents I always know when the piece is complete. My story has been told.

The final step is to create a positive affirmation card based on what the piece expresses to me. In the wearer's possession, when the piece is worn and the affirmation is read it becomes a very personal and empowering experience, I am told.

Living With Your Art

I paint positive and peaceful scenes and Jewelry of Art pieces with warm, vibrant colors. Nature provides the greatest inspiration, whether it's a singly flower petal or leaf or a plush meadow and tall poplars along a lake. Surrounding myself with these images transports me to a place of serenity and bliss. It can be challenging since I live in a bustling city, It is rewarding to be an artist and create whatever environment and mood I desire.

Before, during and after the process of creating the art it is vital that I am in a peaceful, centered, stress-free state of mind. As soon as I complete a painting I frame it, hang it, and sit back and discover all the nuances that come to life before my eyes. I know I have created a successful painting when it continues to grow and evolve over time, continuously restoring my energy.

It is important for me to decorate my space with the colors and textures that harmonize and complement my art.  Lighting is always important and I am constantly seeking to improve the conditions to illuminate the art perfectly to emphasize the best features.

When you have special art pieces you don't need to purchase expensive furniture or many pieces. As long as you have pieces that are well constructed, clean, comfortable and functional for you and your loved ones, everything else you need can be you supplied by art that you love.

Giverny As Jewelry of ART

"Giverny", wearable Jewelry of ART by Renee Phillips

Since 2005 I have been creating One-of-a-Kind wearable art jewelry which I call Jewelry of ART. My process involves sculpting pendants with clay and painting them and using other mixed media. I adorn them with semi precious stones, Swarovski crytals and my own individually hand made beads.

I am currently working on a new series for my Crystal Gallery Collection and Spirit Gallery Collection. Shown here is "Giverny", after Monet, from the Crystal Gallery Collection. This work of art was was purchased by artist Patricia Brown from California.

Why should art remain on walls when we can wear, enjoy, and share it with others anywhere we go?

Blissful Reflections on A Pond

Blissful Reflections on a Pond, triptych, 12" x 36".

I will never forget the first time I saw Monet's paintings of waterlilies in France. I sat in front of them, spellbound and transformed for hours. Living in the bustling city of Manhattan I enjoy creating paintings that tap into the energy of peacefulness and tranquility. I hope my triptych brings you a sense of serenity  and bliss,

The Path to Enlightenment Begins Now

"The Chosen Path II", acrylic and mixed media on canvas", 12" x 12".

This is a sequel to "The Chosen Path I", posted on April 8, 2009.

It is no surprise that I am greatly inspired by paths and they appear in nearly all of my paintings. They serve as metaphors for our journeys to higher levels of consciousness. And, every day we take a new step to broaden our awareness.

As a career coach and author I encourage my clients to follow their own destiny and become fully expressive and true to their own unique nature. My mission is to guide them to reach their greatest potential and be content with their journey along the way.

Space

"What art offers is space - a certain breathing room for the spirit." ~ John Updike

Day 8 of my Painting a Day program. Today's painting is titled "Space". © Renée Phillips 2009. Acrylic on canvas, 12" x 12" x 1-3/8"

Happy Easter! I enjoy the simplicity of today's painting subject ~ a vast open wheat field. I have fond childhood memories of my grandfather's farm -- and captured a sense of infinite space. One viewer stated, "This painting immediately relaxes me and seems to lower my blood pressure."

Take time for a little space and restore yourself.
